On today’s episode: it’s National FFA Week, and there are lots of activities around Kansas; the March 1st deadline is approaching for crop irrigators to report 2017 water use; also, how to get your garden soil tested before the growing season…

Agriculture Today is a daily program featuring Kansas State University agricultural specialists and other experts examining ag issues facing Kansas and the nation. It is hosted by Eric Atkinson and distributed to radio stations throughout Kansas and as a daily podcast.

00:00:00 – National FFA Week:  The executive director of the Kansas FFA Foundation, Beth Gaines, talks about the array of activities that are going on around Kansas this week in recognition of National FFA Week...she also talks about the ongoing growth of the FFA in Kansas, with more new chapters springing up, and about the latest foundation fundraising initiatives in support of the organization.

00:11:30 – Deadline For Reporting 2017 Water Use:  From the Division of Water Resources in the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Sean Williams reminds crop irrigators and other water use permit holders that next Thursday is the deadline for reporting 2017 water use...he'll go over how to take care of that on line, if one prefers to do so...he'll also talk about the stepped-up penalties now in effect for not reporting water use.
