00:01:30 – Southern Rust Disease:  K-State row crop disease specialist Doug Jardine discusses the rapid spread of southern rust disease in the Kansas corn crop:  he goes over how to distinguish this costly disease from common rust, and talks about controlling it with a fungicide in a timely fashion.

 

00:13:00 – Genetic Resistance to Rust Disease in Wheat:  A USDA plant pathologist based at K-State, Bob Bowden, talks about efforts to develop more durable resistance to rust disease in winter wheat varieties in collaboration with wheat geneticists at the university, and he shares information from a new study of barley yellow dwarf virus and its impact on wheat quality.
